When you try to eject a CD or DVD, a message appears: – An error occurred when ejecting the DVD-RW drive, this message provides some suggestions that may help you to solve the problem. This is mainly due to a hardware problem, but can also occur for several reasons.
The reader’s letter is mentioned in the error message and can be H, E, D, etc. Before starting the troubleshooting, you must install the latest version of your CD/DVD driver.
Uninstall the CD/DVD drive from the Device Manager and check what is happening.
1. Open the Device Manager by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Device Manager.
If you are asked for an administrator password or confirmation, type or confirm the password.
2. Locate the CD/DVD ROM’s, right-click and select Properties.
3. Go to the Drivers tab and click the Uninstall button to uninstall the driver associated with the device.
Once the uninstallation is complete, restart your computer, it will automatically detect and reinstall the new driver you downloaded from the manufacturer’s website.
This particular problem occurs when you try to eject the DVD burner using the Eject option in your context menu. Almost all DVD recorders have a special eject button, and you can try to do the same job with this button.

- Press Start, then click Control Panel.
- Select Device Manager.
- Double-click on the CD/DVD-ROM drives.
- Right-click the device, then click Update Driver.

At this point, it is likely that something is physically wrong with the drive or another part of the computer. Here are some points to consider:
- If your hard drive is external, disconnect it and reconnect the data cable and power cord.
- Check internally that the power and data cables are properly connected.
- Restart your computer and try again.
- Replace the player. Optical scanners are relatively inexpensive – Amazon sells a lot of them for about $20.
