In the ‘Advanced settings’ of the Windows 8 firewall, click the’Advanced settings’ link on the left side of the main firewall dialog box. The Windows Firewall with Advanced Security window opens.
When you now see the firewall window, a list of rules is displayed on the left side. In the Input Rules list, choose to display the Input Rules section.
In the right pane, select ‘New rule’.
This opens the’New Input Rule Wizard’ window.
Select’Port’ as the new rule type and click Next. For security reasons, I tried to block the TCP port. Click Specific Local Ports. Then select a port as shown in the screenshot below.
Click Next to continue.
Then select’Block Connection’ as action and click Next.
Later, select all available profiles for different connection types (Domain, Private and Public) and click Next to continue.
Give the new rule a name of your choice. I used Suspicious Ports Block. If you wish, you can add the description of the new rule. However, this step is optional.
Finally, click the Finish button to configure the settings.
Open a port in the Windows firewall
Sometimes you need to open a port in the Windows firewall to allow a specific IP address to communicate with your computer. For example, while playing. The procedure for opening a port remains more or less the same. All you have to do is follow the instructions of the New Inbound Rule Wizard, specify the Port and Allow the connection.
