I remember when I was young when I would build dioramas for school projects and for fun. They were always amazing to me because it was like having my own little town where I could control anything that went on. I found a Photoshop tutorial by Don Engel from psdtuts+ that shows you how to create a diorama illusion using almost any photo and I thought, well, wouldn’t that make a great Gimp tutorial? In this tutorial we will learn how to create a simple but nice sun rise scene. the end result could useful for a website header or even a postcard.
The techniques I’m going to use are quite simple, a few gradients colours, blend modes and some nice floral and grass brushes applied using GIMP’s 2.6 dynamic brushes feature.

Preparing you’re GIMP

Before we start I would like to make sure you have GIMP 2.6 as, If you don’t, check out gimpusers.com download page for the latest version.

Installing Brushes

We’re going to be using two types of brushes the floral brushes by gvalkyrie and the grass brushes by Archeleron. both were made for photoshop but as I’ve mentioned before GIMP fully supports PS brushes. read more

When you open Chrome, you expect to be greeted by a new tab or home page. But it’s not fun to open a series of random tabs from a previous session instead.

And, things are certainly not good if exactly the same thing happens over and over again when you open Chrome.

This tutorial will describe how to make a colorful photo manipulation using a parrot picture, two flower stock photos and two texture background. You’ll see it’s not that hard to create a simple photo manipulation with effective color and using some texture. I hope you like this one and let me know guys what do you think.

You really need to see the end results to appreciate this tutorial, the preview image doesn’t show much :),this Gimp tutorial is meant for Intermediate and above users, but never the less i advise beginners to have a go at it since i do try my best to explain the steps in detail.

Many of the steps are repeated, and all the technical words get a bit boring after a while so hang in there, the results are worth it. now lets get started shall we?

Step 1

Create a new image Area with the size of 420×321 and fill it with the color black. read more

In this tutorial Im going to show you how I blend colors in order to get better looking paintings.

This process can be also achieved in other raster programs like photoshop, and thus its not rare, its in fact widely used. I normally find blending done using the smudge tool, or the blur tool, but using them solely doesn’t gives great results.

We start with the 2 colors we want to blend in, they might be similar or very different. In this case I chose a light blue and a nice red.

Next we set up with a brush with an opacity around 30 to start with and a quite wide brush in relation to the area to fill. We are going to move the mouse as the arrows show (image below) on a zig zag movement. If you are using a tablet you can tap short strokes from one color to another. read more
