Configure VPN connection

This tutorial shows you how to configure your Windows 10/8/7 computer to accept VPN connections.

Reconnect

1. Open Control Panel > Network and Share Center
2. Click Change Adapter Settings.
3. Press Alt + F and click New Incoming Connection
4. A wizard opens. In the first step, select the users you want to allow access to your connection
5. Mark Via Internet and click Next.
6. Select the protocols to connect and double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
7. as shown in the image below. Click OK.
8. You now see the last step of the wizard. Click Close to close it – but don’t forget to write the computer name as it will be used when you log in

That’s all! You have configured your own VPN connection. Now let’s see how to configure the Windows firewall.

Configure firewall to accept connections

1. Go to Control Panel > Windows Firewall
2. Click Advanced Settings in the left menu
3. Now Click Input Rules. Then click the Actions menu and click New Rule…..
4. An assistant opens. In the first step, select Port and click Next .
5. Select TCP. In the Specific ports deleted box, type 1723 and click Next .
6. Now select the Allow connection option and click Next again.
7. Apply rule to all
8. In the Name and Description fields, enter anything you want and click Finish.

Now that you have configured your Windows firewall to accept connections. You must also configure the router. I can’t explain all router settings because they differ from router to router, but I can help by giving you some tips – enable PPTP and GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) on the router, or enable PPTP, or create a port to port 1723. If your router has an additional setting for PPTP or VPN, make sure it is enabled. Your computer is now ready to receive the VPN connection. read more

Windows Vista introduced a new group policy: Delete user profiles that are older than a certain number of days when the system is rebooted.

This policy setting allows an administrator to automatically delete user profiles that have not been used within a certain number of days after accessing a specific user profile when the system is restarted. You may need to do this if you are working in an environment where many users come, creating a user profile, using the system for a while and leaving – such as an educational institution or a workplace – and you do not want unused user profiles to clutter up your system. read more

Windows 7 already offers an option to configure its cores using System Configuration Utility (msconfig). This gives us proof that it is multi-core supported. But when we talk about the new Windows 10/8 operating system, we cannot configure multi-core parameters with the same procedure.

Core Parking is a new feature that dynamically selects a set of processors so that they remain inactive and do not execute threads based on power policy and current usage. This reduces energy consumption and therefore heat and electricity consumption. Under Windows, we usually have to manually edit registry entries to enable or disable this feature, and this requires a restart.

The state of each parked kernel can be observed in the resource monitor under the CPU tab on the right.

If you are using a new Intel multi-core processor like i7, you will notice that some cores are marked as parked. This is a new feature in Windows 7 that optimizes your CPU’s power consumption. read more

What is Svchost stands for Service Host. This is an executable file, critical for the operating system, located in the System32 folder. When Windows starts, it checks the Windows registry and creates a list of services or service groups it should load.

To view the list of services running in Svchost, open an instance of the command prompt, type Tasklist /SVC and press Enter.

Disable the automatic connection of the email application under Windows 8

Many find it useful, but some do not want the email application to connect automatically. To disable the automatic signature of the email application, open it and press Win+I to open settings .

Click Option.

You will see an option to disable or enable all messaging services, i.e. send or receive messages. Move the cursor from On to Off. read more
