You cannot watch DVD movies on the default installation of a Windows 10/8 edition. As long as Windows Media Player is present, the DVD playback function has been removed.

Windows activation is a process that helps you activate Windows and ensures that your copy of Windows is genuine and has not been used on more computers than the terms of the Microsoft Software License Terms allow.

Windows has different license statuses such as :

1. Licensed : You can see this status after successful activation.
2. Initial grace period : This is the state after Windows installation but do not enable it. You will be reminded of the activation or Windows will try to activate it automatically online.
3. Additional Grace Period: If you make major changes to your computer, Windows may ask you to reactivate Windows.
4. Notification period: At the end of the grace period, you will be informed that activation is required.
5. Grace period not real: You can see it after Windows Genuine Advantage determines that your Windows copy is false.
6. Not allowed: This appears on unauthorized copies.

Microsoft has integrated automatic activation in Windows operating systems to make it easier for users to activate their copy of Windows. But for some reason, if you wish, you can disable the feature by editing the Windows registry.
