Cold Turkey Distraction Blocker is a free and open web page blocking tool that temporarily blocks addictive websites. The software comes with a list of popular websites that you can block, and you can even add your own websites that you want to block. Popular sites you can block are Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, YouTube, Hotmail, MSN, Wikipedia, eBay, CollegeHumor, AddictingGames, Reddit, FailBlog, StumbleUpon, etc.
To use the free software, simply select websites from the check boxes or add custom websites using the text box control. The next step is to choose when the website should be blocked. With this tool, you can block a website for up to 7 days. You can select the desired date and time. The time can be 12Hr or 24Hr. If you decide to stay off Facebook and change your mind later, you will have to wait until your time is up. If you try a few tricks to unlock, your time will be reset to lock you for another week.
Once you are finished, click the’Go Cold Turkey’ button and if you want to update a Facebook status on what you are doing, you can simply click the checkbox above the button. The program is easy to use and does not involve any difficult steps.
Cold Turkey is very useful for people like me, because it keeps an eye on me and does not allow me to use my social accounts during my working hours. But remember that once you have blocked a site, you cannot unblock it until the time is up. You cannot open the Task Manager and complete the process. You also cannot uninstall the running program. If you’re thinking of changing the system time to fool the program, forget it! So be careful when using this software.

Cold Turkey cannot be stopped simply because it cannot be stopped from the taskbar or task manager. If you cannot stop the process from the Task Manager and/or uninstall the program from the Control Panel, follow these recommended steps to uninstall Cold Turkey:
Open the Task Manager. On the Process tab, click View All User Processes at the bottom of the window. Exit a process called kctrp_srv.exe and exit the task manager.
Then open the C:Program FilesColdTurkey installation directory. Open ct_settings.ini with Notepad and find the line : done=no and replace it with done=yes.
Then Record. Wait until Cold Turkey tells you that your time is up, then click Leave me alone.
Close Notepad. Now go to C:Windowssystem32driversetc and delete the Hosts file.
Uninstall Cold Turkey from the Control Panel. Restart your browser and check if you can visit the blocked pages.
Cold Turkey describes the actions of a person who suddenly quits a habit or addiction instead of facilitating the process by a gradual reduction – hence the name of this software!
