Create keyboard shortcuts to enable and disable Aero on Windows 7 & Vista

You can create shortcuts, if desired, to enable or disable Aero in Windows 7 and Windows Vista. This post requires that you know how to create shortcuts on the desktop.

Create an AERO OFF shortcut

  • Right-click an empty area on your desktop.
  • Select New > Shortcut.
  • In the first field of the shortcut wizard, type : Rundll32 dwmApi #104
  • Click Next. Name the shortcut: AERO OFF and click Finish.
  • Then select an appropriate icon.

Create an AERO ON shortcut

  • Right-click an empty area on your desktop.
  • Select New > Shortcut.
  • In the first field of the shortcut wizard, type : Rundll32 dwmApi #102
  • Click Next. Name the shortcut: AERO ON and click Finish.
  • Then select an appropriate icon.

Create a 3D Flip shortcut

Right-click an empty area on your desktop.

  • Select New > Shortcut.
  • In the first field of the shortcut wizard, type : Rundll32 dwmApi #105
  • Click Next. Name the shortcut: FLIP 3D and click Finish.
  • Then select an appropriate icon.

Click on this active 3D Flip link.

Very useful when you want to disable or enable Aero Transparency, perhaps when playing games.
