Tired of changing the order of your desktop icons after each screen resolution change? The solution to this frustrating problem is DesktopOK. DesktopOK is a free desktop icon layout software that allows you to save, restore and lock the location and layout of desktop icons. It can record icon positions and other desktop settings. This small utility is very useful for those who frequently change the screen resolution.

Save and restore desktop icon position

To save an icon layout, simply click’Save icon layout’ in the DesktopOK menu and you can see an entry named as your PC screen resolution appears in the list. Don’t worry, you can edit the names without any problem. I prefer to rename the arrangements according to the monitors. For example, I rename it to Dell, which I suppose is the layout of my PC monitor. I renamed the other one to Sony Bravia, what I can learn is this arrangement for my TV. You can also record different arrangements for the same devices by simply adding 1, 2, 3, etc.

If you want to send the arrangement by e-mail or simply export it from the program, you can do so simply by saving the arrangement in’dok’ format. .dok’ files can only be exported and imported from DesktopOK. You can even register this extension for DesktopOK, but you must give the software administration rights to do so.

  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

You can even select an arrangement to load at Windows startup in order to have the desired position of icons at startup. There are a number of other options in the software that you can use to modify general desktop options such as hiding the cursor, managing the mouse wheel, etc. Note that the software only records positions and not sizes.

Overall, this practical tool is very useful. This is very useful for me because I often connect my PC to my TV and monitor. The utility is 100% free, and there is even an option in the software itself to send DesktopOK to a friend.

This freeware can be useful if your desktop icons are reorganized and moved after a reboot.
