We have mentioned here more than once that the next wave of malware that could infect you comes from social networking sites. While it’s a good idea to follow Facebook’s secure login practices, you can never be too safe on social sites. To do this, you also need to strengthen Facebook’s security settings.
ESET Social Media Scanner
Eset has provided all Facebook users with a free application called ESET Social Media Scanner , which checks your Facebook settings, wall messages, etc. and Facebook profile for infected or suspicious content. You can also check your friends’ walls for potentially dangerous links – and receive notification if a suspicious object is found, so that no one in your circle of friends is a victim.
You must log in with your Facebook ID and decide whether ESET Social Media Scanner should post on your behalf, and if so, at what level of visibility. You must also decide whether you want to allow the application to access news and news feeds. This is necessary for effective scanning.
Once you have configured it, click the Run Profile Scan button and wait.
When the scan is complete, you will see a list of infected or suspicious objects.
Click on the sign for details. Suspicious objects are listed.
ESET’s Social Media Scanner ensures that the content of your wall, information stream and private messages is always clean – even if you are not connected! If an infection is detected, you will be notified by e-mail and can intervene immediately.
