With the latest versions of Intel processors, it is certain that most consumer desktops will very soon be equipped with 2, 4 and even 6-core machines.

The main component on any computer is the central processing unit, which stands for central processing unit. The CPU receives the instructions and then performs the calculations. Thus, if a processor can only process one set of instructions on a single one, it has only one kernel.

Using the Task Manager

If you haven’t noticed, the CPU model is “AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor”. However, the purple box indicates “Kernels: 3”. Because the “core” of the AMD Piledriver and Bulldozer is actually composed of two nuclei, which are fused to a “module”. This means that there are 2 integer processing units, but only 1 floating point processing unit, shared cache, etc. The question of whether a module forms two nuclei or a nucleus is debatable. The number of processors (number of CPUs) on your computer is called “sockets”, it is above the violet/blue highlight. A processor enters a power outlet. The computer will not display (boot) unless all sockets have a processor inside, so you can assume that 2 sockets = 2 CPUs.

Using the Command Prompt or PowerShell

WMIC CPU Get DeviceID,NumberOfCores,NumberOfLogicalProcessors

and you will get a list of cores / logic processors for each CPU of your machine.

Or if you’re lazy, just type it in.

WMIC CPU Get /Format:List

and search for entries named NumberOfCores and NumberOfLogicalProcessors.

Use of system information

Press Windows + R and type msinfo32 and press Enter.

On the right side you will find the processor and your cores and logic processors are listed there.

Through third party programs

Various third-party diagnostic tools allow you to find almost all the features of your computer, including the ability to determine the number of processor cores. There are dozens of free and paid programs with similar features.

The more CPUs or cores a computer has, the more things it can do at the same time and improve its performance on most tasks. Most computers are now equipped with multi-core processors – the most efficient option we discussed. On modern smartphones and tablets, you will even find multi-core processors. Intel processors also have Hyper-Threading, which is a kind of bonus. Some computers that require a large amount of CPU power may have multiple processors, but it is much less efficient than it seems.
