The 0x803F8001 error on Xbox One can be problematic and prevents games and applications from running. However, there is a way to fix this problem, and today we will show you how to do it.
The Xbox One may be the best gaming console the world has seen in ages. And while it offers a high-quality, immersive gaming experience, there are times when a few problems do pop up from time to time.
When you start a game or application on your Xbox One console, you’ll see the following code and error message:
0x803f8001 Do you own this game or app? If you have a game disc, insert it now. Otherwise, make sure you're signed in to Xbox Live. If you don't have rights for playing it, you'll need to buy it at Microsoft Store.
This may mean that we are having trouble verifying your rights.
Insert the Game Disc
Games on disc must remain inserted in the Xbox console drive when you play them. This is the only way to verify that you own the game. Since the Xbox will go to digital games if you’ve bought one of the shelves, here’s how you can prove it.
This tip doesn’t apply to the Xbox One S or to a console that doesn’t come with the player.
Set Home Console
- Press the Xbox button to start the tutorial.
- Select System, Settings, then Customize, then My Private Xbox.
- Review the information and then select the following items.
- Select My Private Xbox to set up the console as your private Xbox.
- Select This is not my private Xbox to cancel the change.
Power Cycle Xbox One
It worked for many users to fix the bug, so it is recommended here to power the Xbox One.
Follow the steps to do so:
- Connect the Xbox console
- Then press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds or until the console is turned off.
- Then unplug the power cord > wait a moment (10-15 seconds)
- And plug it in > turn it on by pressing the power switch.
- Check whether “Do you own this game or app” is set or not.
Resetting the Xbox One Console
If none of the above steps can easily correct the error, the last option is to perform a hardware reset of the Xbox One device. To perform the reset, follow the lines below.
- First take the controller and then press the left button on the +Control Pad. This action launches the “Menu” on the left side of the screen.
- Then scroll down this “menu” to the “Gearbox” icon and select “All Settings” from the submenu by pressing the “A” button.
- A new page called “Settings” will appear. Find the “System” option on this page and select it from the list.
- Next, find and select the ‘Console Info & Updates’ sub-option in the sub-list.
- On the last page that appears, select the ‘Reset Console’ option.
- Finally, when you get a prompt with two options, select the one that says “Reset and delete all”.
- Once the Xbox One console has been reset to the defaults and the Xbox Live account is synchronized, the next thing to do is to try to run the game and see if this problem occurs or not.
Clear the Windows Store Cache
Problems with the cache can cause many errors, including “Do you own this game or application” (error code 0x803f8001). So clean it up to find out if this was the case:
- Open the command prompt by typing cmd in the Widows search box or pressing Win + R.
- Type WSReset.exe at the command prompt and press Enter.
- You will receive a message about an empty cache. Then restart your computer.
Make Sure You’re Logged in to Xbox Live
If you receive the error message 0x803F8001, the problem may be that you are not logged into your Xbox Live account. If you are trying to run applications or games from the Microsoft Store, you must be signed in to Xbox Live or you will receive this error message.
Therefore, make sure you are properly logged in and try running the application again.
