There does not seem to be a single solution to the error message “Alert, system battery voltage is low” that you can see during the start-up process. It flashes on your computer screen and prompts the user to press F1 to continue, F2 to run the setup program, or F5 to perform the on-board diagnostic.
Essentially, there are two reasons why the alarm goes off when the battery voltage is low. These are,
- The sensing circuit on the motherboard
- The battery

Depending on the user accounts, if you are not too slow to remove the old battery and insert the new one, the “filter cap” on the right can absorb enough energy to power the CMOS clock for a short period of time.
With a digital clock, the current to operate a 32768 Hz oscillator is about 2 microamperes, so the south bridge should not absorb the charge of this capacitor too quickly (the ICH5 data sheet indicates that the battery current is 6 microamperes).
