User Account Control (UAC) settings cannot be changed in Windows

In the Windows 7 control panel, you can change user account control settings (UAC) in the action center. In the User Account Control Settings dialog box, move the Notifications slider and click the OK button.

In this scenario, the dialog box is not closed and no changes are made. If the mouse pointer is above the OK button and you press ENTER, the dialog box still does not close and no changes are made. If you click Cancel, the dialog closes and no changes are made as planned.

This problem can occur if Microsoft Office 97 is installed on Windows 7. Installing Office 97 causes a registry change that causes this problem.

To fix this, Microsoft released a Fix It solution. To solve this problem, download Microsoft Fix It 30000.
