Many people are testing free versions of Windows 10 on their computers to help Microsoft improve the Windows 10 operating system.

These previews are regularly updated by Windows Update, but several users who use Windows 10 Insider previews have reported problems downloading new versions. You cannot see the new preview versions in Windows Update. Windows Update indicates that your device is up to date and no new updates are available, even if you are using an older version of Windows 10.

If you also have this problem and the new versions of Windows 10 do not appear on your computer with Windows Update, the following steps will help you to solve the problem and download the RTM version without problems.

The Insider program settings page requires the data collection function to be set to “Full”. If it is not set to “Full”, you will not be able to participate in the Windows Insider program. If the data collection function is set to a different value, the insider page under Settings is most likely interrupted. When using the PowerShell command above, force the data collection function to be set to Full.

Changing Permissions on Registry Keys

  • To solve this problem, open the registry editor and navigate to the following path :
  • Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost\UI\Visibility
  • Look for the WORD (32-bit) named HideInsiderPage and create it if it doesn’t exist.
  • Set the value of this WORD to 00000000 if you want to make this page visible. Make sure that the base value is set to hexadecimal.
  • If you want to intentionally hide this page from the user, you can set the value data for the same DWORD as 00000001.

Re-register the Settings

  • Type Powershell in the Windows Start search box > Right-click Powershell > Run as Administrator > Add the following command to the PowerShell window and press Enter
  • Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
  • Restart your computer

Conclusion

As you may already know, the Windows Insider program contains a series of rings (levels) that determine how often you receive application updates and new versions of Windows, as well as their stability. The ring can be changed in the settings under Update and Security > Windows Insider Program. If the Windows Insider program page under Settings appears in black, you can try to solve the problem as described in this article.
