Fix Legacy Boot Issues in Windows 10

There are two possibilities when it comes to BIOS firmware. You can choose the new UEFI firmware or stick to the Legacy BIOS. Your choice depends on several factors, but we will not suggest any interference with the firmware if you do not have enough experience.

The common problem is to switch from one option to another because some users cannot boot from the old one. There are several reasons for this and we have listed some solutions below.

Activating the Legacy boot mode

On PCs and laptops from most manufacturers, including Dell, HP, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Lenovo and many others, the old boot can be turned on or enabled via the EFI configuration function available immediately after the PC is powered on. On many computers, it is not necessary to enable booting from the old system, but if you have boot problems from a bootable CD/DVD or USB, you will probably need to follow these instructions to allow your PC or laptop to boot in old mode.

How to fix bugs with Legacy Boot:

Disabling Raid On and Secure Boot

If you cannot boot with the Legacy boot and must avoid the UEFI for any reason, our first suggestion is to disable both RAID and Secure Boot in the boot settings. Once this is done, restart your PC and try again. Of course, make sure that the old boot is enabled in the boot parameters.

If you are not sure how to access the BIOS settings on Windows 10, follow these steps:

  1. Restart your PC 3 times to access the Advanced Recovery menu.
  2. Select Troubleshooting.
  3. Choose Advanced Options.
  4. Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
  5. Finally, click Restart.
  6. Once you are in the BIOS/UEFI settings, disable Secure Boot and RAID On (enable AHCI).
