After updating Windows from build 1703, Windows 10 detects disk error 0x8004de40, which is reported by many users. Users will see this error code along with the message: “There was a problem when logging into OneDrive” with the option to “Retry”. This error indicates that the app is malfunctioning or has problems connecting to Microsoft’s cloud servers. Eventually, users’ access to the app is restricted and blocked. Change Internet properties

• Press the Windows + R key to open Run.
• Type inetcpl.cpl and click OK to open the Internet Properties window.
• In the Internet Properties window, open the Advanced tab.
• Under Settings, scroll down, find the following options, and check the appropriate checkboxes:
• Use TLS 1.0.
• Use TLS 1.1
• Use TLS 1.2
• Click Apply and OK to save your changes.

TLS 1.0 and above is a security protocol that allows you to configure encryption channels on your computer network. Your OneDrive client may not work properly if these protocols are disabled.

Configure Internet proxy settings

• Press the Windows + R key to open Run.
• Type inetcpl.cpl and click OK to open the Internet Properties window.
• In the Internet Properties window, open the Connection tab.
• Click Local network settings.
• In your local network settings, disable the “Use a proxy server for your local network” option.
• Then activate the “Automatically detect settings” option.
• Click Apply and OK to save your changes.

Reset Winsock directory

Several people have noticed that OneDrive error 0x8004de40 is followed by an NVIDIA GeForce Experience Internet connection error. If you notice that other programs are having connection issues, try the following command:

• Right-click the Windows key and select Command Prompt (administrator).
• Type the command netsh winsock reset catalog and press Enter.
