For many years, voice-activated computers looked like science fiction and were only seen in movies. But Apple has now released a number of features that use speech recognition, including Siri and Dictation. Many Mac users are familiar with these features and use them regularly. The Dictation feature converts spoken words into text, while Siri is a wizard that listens to spoken requests and can compose short messages and emails.

Apple has released an enhanced version of the dictation function called “Enhanced Dictation”, which allows you to use it without an Internet connection. This feature has become very popular, but it has also experienced several problems. It has been reported that the dictation function did not work properly or stopped completely after the operating system was updated. Although these problems occur after the system is upgraded, there are several ways to resolve them.

Performing Speech Troubleshooting

Let’s start by removing your microphone as a possible instigator. The first step you can try is to use the built-in voice troubleshooter. This troubleshooter must perform a series of tests to determine whether or not your microphone is properly configured.

This may not help you overcome the problem when drivers are involved. This requires a manual approach.

August 2020 Update:

We now recommend using this tool for your error. Additionally, this tool fixes common computer errors, protects you against file loss, malware, hardware failures and optimizes your PC for maximum performance. You can fix your PC problems quickly and prevent others from happening with this software:

  • Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (Windows 10, 8, 7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

Here’s how to solve the voice control problem in Windows 10:

  • Press the Windows + I key to open the configurations.
  • Select Update and Security.
  • Select Troubleshooting on the left.
  • Expand the troubleshooting for voice control and click Run Troubleshooting.

Check microphone drivers and permissions

The second important thing we need to inspect before we go to the Bureau’s troubleshooting is the microphone pilot. Most recording devices will work immediately like Windows. The update will focus on the drivers.

However, this is not always the case, so you will have to install them manually. To get started, let’s reinstall the generic drivers and continue from there:

  • Right-click on Start and open Device Administrator.
  • Expand the Audio Inputs and Outputs section.
  • Right-click on your microphone (or microphones if you see multiple devices) and select Uninstall Device.
  • Restart your PC and return to the Device Administrator.
  • The drivers should update automatically, but you can do this manually at any time by right-clicking on the microphone in the section above and installing the drivers.

Repair MS Office Installation

If there are no problems with the audio recording device, we can proceed to troubleshooting at the office. The best way to solve all office problems is to repair the installation.

This is a common solution that won’t take up too much of your valuable time. As many other cases have shown, the installation of Office 365 and its predecessors tends to become corrupt.

For this reason, we suggest that you navigate to the control panel and repair the installation. Here you can learn how to do so:

  • In the Windows search bar, type control and open the control panel.
  • Select Uninstall a program.
  • Right-click on the Office and click Repair.

Reinstall MS Office

If none of the above steps have helped you solve the problem, we finally recommend a clean re-installation. You can find the installation on the official website of the Office and download it quite easily.

But before that, you need to uninstall Office from your PC by following the steps of the previous solution. Instead of choosing Repair, choose Uninstall from the context menu.

Then simply launch the installation program and log in with your login and password. You should then be able to use the dictations in the Office programs without any further problems.

However, if you still can’t do this, you should consider contacting official support and describing your problem.

That concludes this article. If you have any alternative solutions or possibly any questions, don’t forget to post them in the “Comments” section below. We look forward to hearing from you.
