A common problem when installing the program on a Windows PC is an error message after starting the program installer. “The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable“. This problem occurs due to the fact that some registry entries remain intact when deleting a previous version of VMware Workstation. Therefore when trying to update a workstation, the installer cannot find files that have already been deleted.
Before proceeding further, we recommend that you create a recovery point using the system recovery tool embedded in Windows operating systems. A recovery point contains information about the registry. You can use a recovery point to undo changes made to your system.
Also, make sure that the Windows Installer service is running before you perform the following steps. You can open the services window by typing services.msc in the “Run” field to open the Service Manager and make sure that the service is running.
Here are a few steps that you can take to solve this problem.
Run the Program Install and Uninstall Troubleshooter
- Download the Troubleshooting Tool to install and install the program from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ph/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that- block programs to be installed or removed.
- Go to where you downloaded the Troubleshooting Tool and double-click on it to launch it.
- Follow the instructions on the screen and troubleshoot to the end.
- The Troubleshooter tries to identify and fix problems such as registry values and registry key corruption, as well as other problems that prevent you from installing and/or uninstalling new programs. old programs. Let the Troubleshooter do what it was designed to do.
- Reboot the computer.
Make sure that the feature you are trying to use is on a network share with which no problem has yet arisen.
Download a different version / copy of the installation package or download it from another path
As can be seen from the error text, the problem may be related to the location of the installation package, or you may have downloaded a corrupted file or another version that your computer does not support.
Download the installation package somewhere else to check the problem. If more than one package exists, check the properties of your system to find a version suitable for your Windows system. For example, most programs have 32-bit and 64-bit installation packages and different versions for different processors. So before booting an installation package, check the properties of your system, and then boot it according to the specifications of your computer.
Remove the registry key for the program you are installing
- Press the key with the Windows + R logo to open the “Run” dialog box.
- Type regedit in the Run dialog box and press Enter to open the registry editor.
- On the left pane of the registry editor, navigate to the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE> SOFTWARE> Classes> Install.
- In the right pane of the Registry Editor, double-click the “Products” subsection of the installation key to expand it, and then click each subsection in turn under the “Products” key so that you can view the contents in the right pane of the Registry Editor. Check the product name registration line (REG_SZ) for each subsection under the product key, because these values contain the name of the program for which each registry section is intended. You should continue until you find the subsection corresponding to the program you are having problems with when installing or deleting it.
- When you find the subsection associated with the vulnerable program, right-click the subsection and select “Delete”.
- In the pop-up window that appears, click Yes to confirm the action.
- After deleting the subsection associated with the program, close the registry editor and reboot your computer.
