Error code 0x8004010F is an Outlook error that have plagued Windows users for some time. If MS Outlook is used while connected to the Exchange server, all mailbox data on the server is stored locally in a file called OST (Offline Storage Table) file. This file can be considered as a copy of the user’s Exchange mailbox, as it stores all account records locally on the server.
The main role of this file comes into play when the Exchange server fails due to technical problems or maintenance work. In such cases, users can continue to work locally with the OST file without interruption, and any changes they make to the account are merged with their Exchange account as soon as the server reappears.
When you try to send or receive emails in Outlook 2010, you can receive one of these error messages:
“0x8004010F: Outlook data file cannot be accessed.”
“0x8004010F: The operation failed. An object could not be found.”
If you see this Outlook error message frequently, you can easily fix it.
How to Fix Error 0x8004010F: Outlook Data File Cannot be Accessed
To resolve error 0x8004010F, identify the current location of your default Outlook data file, then create a new Outlook profile. To do this, follow these steps.
Search for the Outlook data file (PST)
Start the Outlook application. Click File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
In Account Settings, on the Data Files tab, note the name and location of the default Outlook data file (the default data file is always checked). Click on Close.
Create a new Outlook data file
Open your Outlook 2010 profile and browse through the following items.
- File -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Account Settings
- Click Outlook Folder, then New Outlook Data File. You can give a temporary name to the data file here.
- Click on the + icon next to the folder name to expand all subfolders. Once it is extended, select Inbox and click OK.
- Click on the Edit folder and select another folder.
- Click the + icon again and expand the subfolder, select Inbox, then click OK.
That’s what it is. Close the Account Settings page and click Send/Receive.
Create a new Outlook profile
- Click on the Control Panel option.
- Select and click on the “Messaging” button in the “Control Panel” section.
- In the new “Mail Setup” field, click on the “Show Profile” button located in the “Profiles” area.
- You can now see the list of Outlook profiles configured in Outlook, select an account and click on the Properties button.
- A pop-up window with the name “Mail-Setup” will also appear on the screen, in which you must click on the “Data Files” button.
- Click on the Email Configuration field to go directly to the Account Settings window. In this window, click the Data Files tab and note the location and other information about the current location of the Outlook PST file.
- Finally, click on the “Close” button.
