The exact reason for the failure of the Windows 10 upgrade is unknown, as the description of the error is rather vague. It is also possible that the causes are too broad and varied, as evidenced by the many solutions proposed by users who can solve problems in one but not in the other.
The error code 0x80070003 – 0x2000D is no exception. When you try to update to build 1809 or the new 1903, you may encounter the error message. The error message appears when users attempt to update their systems using the media creation tool. This may be caused by some applications installed on your computer system, or sometimes the services in the background may be found guilty. So let’s get started.
Uninstalling third-party applications
After reading the causes, you probably know that the problem may be due to third-party applications on your system. But don’t worry, you don’t need to uninstall all third-party applications because you may have a lot of them. You should check which applications on your system interfere with your Internet connection or the upgrade process itself. What you are looking for are VPNs, third-party antivirus software, or anything else you can put in the same category. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Press the Windows button to open the Start menu.
- Type in the Control Panel and open it.
- Under Programs, click on’Uninstall a program’.
- Locate the author programs and double-click on them to uninstall them.
- Reboot your system, then try an upgrade.
Download Windows 10 ISO again.
Download Windows 10 ISO again and save it locally on your desktop, then try to upgrade.
Use the Media Creation Tool, then make a bootable copy. Yes, you can use it to perform a clean installation.
After a clean boot on your Windows 10 computer, run the Windows 10 1809 media creation tool again and it should now download/install the update without error.
Check your date and time settings.
Make sure that the date and time on your computer are correct.
To do that:
a. Click on “Date and time” in the lower right corner.
b. Click on “Change date and time settings” in the window that opens.
c. Press “Change Date and Time” to make sure you have set the correct date/time/year on your computer.
d. When you are finished with the date and time, press “Change time zone” to make sure you have the correct time zone.
e. Restart your computer and try to update it. If the problem persists, proceed to the next method.
