We have already covered the password recovery tool for the Opera browser. PasswordFox is another password recovery tool – but for Mozilla Firefox. It allows you to view user names and passwords stored by Mozilla Firefox. This is a very convenient utility to have around you and can save your life if you forget or lose the passwords stored in your Firefox browser.

Some changes introduced in the latest version include the latest version of PasswordFox :

  • Memory leak correction with each update
  • Support for Firefox 4 (Beta)
  • /installfolder
  • command line parameters
  • ‘Firefox Version’ column

By default, the program displays passwords stored in your current profile. You can easily choose to view passwords from any other Firefox profile. The following information is displayed for each password entered:

  1. Index
  2. Website
  3. Username
  4. Password
  5. Username
  6. Password field
  7. Bookmark file name
  8. It is important that you install the Firefox browser on your system so that PasswordFox can capture the password list. To activate the program, simply run the executable’PasswordFox.exe’. After activation, the main window displays the complete list of passwords for the last profile used.

PasswordFox can therefore be a useful tool to secure your connection data. However, it is important to note that even if the list is exported as a text or HTML file, it is not encrypted and should therefore be stored securely.

PasswordFox is free software and can be downloaded here .

PasswordFox works with all versions of Windows operating systems such as Windows 2000/2003 Server/XP/Vista/Windows 7; always use the program to unlock your own Firefox password and avoid using this program to find passwords for others.

Some anti-virus and anti-spyware programs mark PasswordFox as infected with viruses and spyware – a case of false positives, I guess!

Check IE PassView if you want to recover forgotten passwords from Internet Explorer.
