Create the battery status report using the Energy Efficiency Diagnostic Tool under Windows

Windows contains a powerful command line tool called PowerCFG, which is very useful for troubleshooting PowerPlans. You can also use this tool, Power Efficiency Diagnostic Report Tool, to enable and disable devices. In this article, we will learn how to use PowerCGF to determine the health of your laptop’s battery. Starting with Windows 7, the operating system includes a hidden tool that examines your notebook’s power consumption and gives you a report and suggestions for improving battery efficiency. To run the energy efficiency diagnostic tool, run cmd as administrator.

Enter the following on the command line :

powercfg -energy -output DirectorynameFilename.html

For example, I saved mine on the desktop as Power_Report.html.

powercfg - power output c:UserACKDesktopPower_Report.html

Windows tracks, monitors and analyzes your laptop for about 60 seconds and creates an HTML report where you specify.

If you simply type powercfg -energy and press Enter, the report will be saved in your System32 folder.

Generate a battery status report

The Power Efficiency Diagnostic Report could be very detailed and overwhelm a normal user. This report analyzes and displays your battery status and alerts you to warnings, errors and other information about your battery.

In this case, you can see that the rated capacity is 5200, while the last full load indicates 4041 – almost 22% less than the originally expected load. If your battery is about 50%, you can expect it to last only a few months.
