Use Group Policy

In Windows Start Search, type secpol.msc and press Enter. This opens the Local Security Policy Editor. Go to Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options.

Search now Interactive Login: Do not display the last user name on the right side. Right-click on it and open the properties. Set it to Enabled > Apply.

This security setting determines whether the name of the last user who connects to the computer is displayed in the Windows login screen. If this policy is enabled, the name of the last user who logged in successfully does not appear in the Login to Windows dialog box. If this policy is disabled, the name of the last user logged in is displayed.

Using Registry Editor

Secpol.msc is only available in Windows Ultimate, Pro and Business.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem

Users of other versions of Windows can do the following. Open regedit and navigate to this key.

This should accomplish the task.

It is best to always create a system restore point before working in the registry.
