Windows 10 / 8 have a high contrast ratio of 14:1 between the foreground and background. In earlier versions of Windows, the high-contrast mode was limited to themes running under classic themes that were not visually designed. But in Windows 8, Windows Server 2012 and above, Classic mode has been removed and replaced by visually designed, high-contrast themes.

The user interface components that are modified in high contrast themes are:

  1. Background color of windows
  2. Text color
  3. Hyperlink color
  4. Text off
  5. Foreground and background colors of selected text
  6. Foreground and background colors of selected text
  7. Front colors
  8. Inactive foreground and background colors
  9. Foreground and background colors of foreground and background color buttons.
