In Windows 10, users can choose where to install or move Windows applications to or from the store and save the data by default, rather than on the default Windows drive “This PC (C)”.
They can choose to install or move new Windows applications to any internal or external drive, including SD cards, USB drives, and USB flash drives. You cannot use mapped network drives, and you can only use one location at a time to store applications.
What happens when the location is changed for new Windows applications is enabled:
- This is the default setting.
- The default location for new user applications is automatically reset to the previous location before being disabled.
- Users can change the location of new applications on their behalf.
- Applications that have been installed and saved in another available location can now be reopened.
What happens when the location of new Windows applications is changed is disabled:
- Users can no longer change the new location of applications for their account.
- The default location of new applications is automatically reset to the default location of the system drive “This PC (C)”.
- All applications installed and stored in a location other than “This PC (C)” are offline and cannot be opened.
Disable Changing Save Location of Apps in Windows 10
- Open the Local Group Policy Editor application, or start it for all users except the administrator or for a specific user.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Application Package Deployment window.
- On the right, double-click the Disable Windows Application Installation on Non-System Volumes entry to edit it.
- Set the setting to “Enabled”.
- Restart Windows 10.
To cancel the change, set the above policy to Not configured.
Disabling OneDrive Using the Registry Editor
We will now show you the third method for disabling OneDrive Windows 10, which is to use the Registry Editor to disable OneDrive Windows 10.
- Open Registry Editor
- Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time to open the Run dialog box.
- Type regedit in the field and click OK to continue.
- In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the next key :
- Right-click the Windows key and select New > Key to continue.
- Rename the new key to OneDrive.
- Select OneDrive Key and right-click the white area on the right. Then select New > DWORD(32-bit) to continue.
- Name the new key as
- Then double-click on the new key and change the value data to 1.
When you are finished, you can close the Registry Editor window and restart your computer. This will disable the OneDrive on your computer.
If you need to use OneDrive again or want to synchronize files with OneDrive, you can re-enable it.
However, some people also ask if there is a way to uninstall or permanently remove OneDrive because they no longer want to use it.
