Cortana’s search bar and integration was one of the most expected features of Windows 10, but it is not universally appealing, and if you are one of those who don’t like it or don’t want to lose so much space in the taskbar, you can hide or disable it. When Cortana is enabled, the search bar will show Cortana. If Cortana is disabled, the box will say “Search Windows“. Both can be used or removed at will.

Disable Cortana
If you have not activated Cortana, you will see the top part of the box that looks like this when you click on the search box and then on the Settings icon. Note that Cortana is turned off. You can also disable the online search and the inclusion of Bing results when searching in the Start menu by pressing this button.
If you have already enabled Cortana, the settings dialog box changes completely and is hidden under the notebook icon – from here you can click Settings and go to the screen above.
Once you have deactivated Cortana and Bing, you can hide the icon.
Conclusion
Windows 10 integrates Windows search directly into the taskbar. By default, the search bar is always visible next to the Start menu. While this can be useful, it takes up a lot of space on the taskbar. Today, there is also a separate button for the Cortana Virtual Assistant, which adds to the confusion.
You can remove the search bar and the Cortana button to get a cleaner taskbar. Right-click on the taskbar and click on the Search menu. Select the “Hidden” option to remove the search bar. Right-click on the taskbar again and click the “Show Cortana Button” menu item to hide Cortana.
