AltGr is an important key if you want to customize your keyboard to type in another language, such as Spanish.

You cannot use a keyboard shortcut that uses the ALT GR key in a Terminal Services session that connects to a Terminal Server 2003 server on Windows Server.

Workaround

To avoid this problem, use one of the following methods:

  1. Use the CTRL + ALT key combination instead of the ALT GR key to enter extended characters in the
  2. Terminal Services session.
  3. Configure Windows to stop using keyboard shortcuts for Terminal Services sessions. To do this, proceed as follows:
  4. Click Start, click Run, type mstsc.exe, then click OK.
  5. In the Connect to Remote Desktop dialog box, click Options, then click the Local Resources tab.
  6. In the Apply Windows key combinations list, click On the local computer.
  7. On the General tab, click Save As, enter a name in the File Name box, and then click Save.

How to activate or deactivate Alt Gr?

There is no way to disable this key. The default mode is enabled. However, depending on what you do with the Alt Gr key, workarounds are available.

1] If you have an Alt Gr key on your computer, you can disable it by simultaneously pressing the Shift and CTRL keys. It may have been activated to always be on, so it can be turned off.

2] We know that Windows imitates this key when you press Ctrl + Alt simultaneously or use the right Alt key. If your ALt Gr physical key no longer works, you can use this combination.

3] If you don’t want Alt Gr to work at all, we can delete the characters it generates. This is possible with Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator.

To activate the Alt Gr function, press the Fn button and the Menu button simultaneously, then the “Menu” button behaves like the “Alt Gr” button.

To disable this function, press the Fn and Menu keys to restore the Menu key.
return to the “Menu” function.

Recognize the Alt Gr (Alt Graph) modifier at the touch of a button

In the Javascript event object, there are Boolean values to check if the edit keys are pressed:

ctrlKey: CTRL key.
altKey : ALT key.
altLinks : Left ALT key. For IE only.
altGraphKey : ALTGR key. For Chrome/Safari only.

But there are some problems:

IE and Chrome set ctrlKey to true and altKey to true when you press the ALTGR modifier.
Firefox sets ctrlKey to false and altKey to true when you press the ALTGR modifier because only ALT has been pressed.
Chrome has the property altGraphKey, but is still undefined.
