Windows users were experiencing an “Invalid Game Executable” error every time they tried to launch Apex Legends. This startup error can’t even reinstall Apex Legends and Origin.
Follow the steps below to resolve the error launching an invalid executable game file.
Possible reasons for this error
- R5Apex.exe is blocked by antivirus.
- Corrupted game files or cache
- Executable compatibility issue
- Damaged Easy Cheat Engine
- Windows update is missing
Recover R5APEX.exe from AV Vault
It turned out that the most common cause of the “Invalid game executable” error is when your antivirus has quarantined an important game file (r5apex.exe).
There is no official explanation yet as to why there are many different third-party packages that have been confirmed to quarantine this file due to false positives. In some cases, this can also be the case with its own security pack (Windows Defender).
If you are using a third-party security package, search the Internet for instructions to make sure the r5apex.exe file has been quarantined and, if so, restore it to the game folder.
Note. In AVG, this can be done by opening the AVG application and choosing Menu> Quarantine> click r5apex.exe, click the drop-down tab with the yellow Delete button, then click Restore and add an exception. …
If you are using a different third-party package, search the Internet for specific steps to remove a quarantined item from your antivirus repository and exclude it from future scans.
- Open the Avast user interface.
- Go to settings
- Click General
- Find the “Exceptions” tab
- Add “C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Origin Games \ Apex \ r5apex.exe” here.
- In most cases, Apex is installed here.
- Click OK and fix Apex Legends.
- Open the AVG user interface
- Press “Menu” and go to “Settings”.
- Find General and click Exceptions.
- Now click on Add Exception and paste here:
- “C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Origin Games \ Apex \ r5apex.exe”
- Now click on Add Exception and start repairing Apex Legends now.
Recover game files
A mismatch with the installation of the game can also result in an incorrect Apex Legends executable error. This usually happens due to corrupted or missing game files. Fortunately, Origin has a useful feature to help you fix these.
All you have to do is go to the Origin client and click on “My Game Library”. Then select the Apex Legends settings icon and click “Restore”. Wait for the process to complete and restart Origin. Then launch the game and check if it works correctly.
Clear game cache
Another reason for the invalid Apex Legends executable file is an issue with the game’s cache files. In this case, you need to clear the game cache. Some users have fixed it with this solution and you can try it as well.
Here are the detailed steps.
Step 1. Press Win + E to open File Explorer.
Step 2: navigate to: C: \ Users \ username \ Saved Games \ Respawn \ Apex \ local.
Step 3: Click the View tab on the toolbar and activate hidden items. Then delete all items from the local folder.
After that, you need to restart your computer and launch Apex Legends again.
