Updating the Discord icon in the system tray to display the red “mentioned” icon when there are new messages. Whatever you do, you can’t get rid of this point permanently. However, you can hide it by closing an existing direct message with a friend, but the red dot will return after 2 or 3 seconds. In addition, you click on each open discussion and you notice that none of them shows an unread badge. But the red dot is still there. Congratulations, you are on the right page, we will show you some methods you can use to remove the red dot of Discord. Let’s go!
The new update for Discord has updated the Discord icon in the taskbar to display the red “mentioned” icon when there are new messages and not when it is displayed only for messages where you have been mentioned. I did not find this change in the change log, which makes me think it is an error or a change not mentioned.
Hiding Discord’s Red Dot on Windows
- Right-click on your taskbar and then click on the taskbar settings.
- Powering up Use small buttons in the taskbar.
- This reduces the size of your taskbar, but also hides the red dot in front of your Discord icon.
Check your old notifications.
Notifications of old group / channel messages
The red dot badge is usually displayed when you receive a notification of an unread message. Make sure you have seen all the messages, not just the last one, but also the old ones. Sometimes you forget to check your notification, but reviewing the old recorded messages can solve your problem. Try it out!
In addition, someone recently added you to a group or channel and there was no conversation going on, but you can’t read the story. There is no unread notification about this group/canal, you should right-click on the message and click Mark as read, this discussion group/canal will disappear. But to save time if you have several channels, you can right-click on the server icon in the left column and click on “Mark as read”. You can also enable “Server mute” on servers for which you do not want to receive all notifications.
Disable it in the Discord settings.
Here is a practical method in the Discord settings that makes it disappear permanently. To disable the red dot:
- Start the Discord application and log into your account.
- Click on the “Settings” gearbox next to your username in the lower left corner of the screen.
- In the left pane, click on the Notifications option.
- Click on the toggle switch in front of the Enable Unread Message Badge to disable it.
- Click on the “X” at the top right of the screen to close Discord.
- Restart Discord and check if the problem persists.
The red dot is now permanently disabled, but this method also prevents you from becoming aware of unread messages, activate the “Unread Message Badge” if you want to use the red dot feature.
