SYS files such as rtwlanu.sys are classified as Win32 EXE files (Driver). As a Realtek WLAN USB NDIS Driver 47807 file, it was developed for use in Microsoft’s Realtek WLAN Wireless USB 2.0 adapter.

Many Windows users had difficulty solving a problem that resulted in a constant BSOD pointing to the rtwlanu.sys file as the cause of the problem. Most users with this problem report that the crash usually occurs when they try to put their computer on standby or in hibernation. In addition to the failed rtwlanu.sys object, the blue screen also shows several different stop codes, including “Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal”, “System Thread Exception Not Handled” and “Driver Unloaded Without Canceling Pending Operation”.

Reasons for Rtwlanu.sys Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Error

There are several reasons why you may have problems with rtwlanu.sys. Most problems with SYS files are related to Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors. This type of error in the rtwlanu.sys file can be caused by hardware problems, obsolete firmware, corrupted drivers or other software-related problems (e. g. Windows Update). Some of these errors include:

  • rtwlanu.sys could not be found.
  • rtwlanu.sys failed to load.
  • The file rtwlanu.sys is missing or corrupt.
  • Windows failed to start – rtwlanu.sys.

Uninstall the damaged network driver.

uninstall USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller driver

It turns out that this problem is most often associated with a corrupted network driver. There is a specific driver (Realtek RTL8723AU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0) that many users often call the author of this type of BSOD solution.

If this scenario is applicable (you use Realtek drivers for your wireless connection), there is a high probability that you can solve the problem by uninstalling the driver responsible for the crash and installing the dedicated driver according to your motherboard manufacturer, or by having a generic driver installed by Windows.

Performing a system restore

system restore1

The last solution you can try is to restore the system. If system protection is enabled, Windows creates a restore point before installing the driver. You can then follow these steps to reset the driver to an earlier version to solve this problem.

System recovery allows your system to return to a previous state. Some of the contents of your system, such as system settings, some programs, the registry, are affected. But your files and personal data are not modified.

1) Simultaneously press Win+R (Windows logo key and R key) to open a Runbox.

2) Type rstrui.exe and click on OK. The System Restore window opens.

3) Click on Next and you will see the next screen. Select a restore point that was created before the error occurred. You can see the date and time you created. Click Next to continue and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery.

4) Restart your PC and check if the blue screen has disappeared.

I hope the above solutions will help you to correct the IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL Blue Screen error. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave your comments. We would appreciate any ideas or suggestions.
