With 70 million free users and 30 million premium customers, Spotify is the undisputed king of music streaming services. In contrast, the next competitor, Apple Music, has about 13 million subscribers.

However, being the market leader does not mean that Spotify is problem-free. Given the large number of users, the number of devices supported and the size of the music catalog, it is not surprising that problems can and should occur regularly.

Spotify is known for its constant updates that allow users to take advantage of the latest features. However, this problem is not so repugnant and the solution is quite simple. Of course, streaming music requires high Internet speed, otherwise you are faced with a buffer that is totally unacceptable in this day and age. However, with everything that has been said, we will look at the causes of this problem.

The problem is the cache management of the Spotify application. Over time, cache files reach a size that exceeds efficiency and reaches a very large size, making it difficult for the computer to use them without consuming more disk space and processing, which becomes counterproductive. The solution is to remove the files from the cache and then make a configuration setting in the Spotify installation files to limit the size of the cache so that it does not inflate.

Most common solution

  1. Note is your Windows ID. Go to the folder C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Spotify.
  2. Delete these folders – browser, memory and data.
  3. Go to the folder C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Spotify\.
  4. Search this folder for a file called perfs.
  5. Open Perfs in Notepad or another text editor.
  6. Add the bold text at the end of the file. This limits the cache to 1024MN or 1GB. You can set this setting to whatever you want, but it will cover the cache and not let it grow to an unlimited size. storage.size=1024
  7. Save the file.

Disabling hardware acceleration

By default, Spotify uses the Hardware Acceleration feature, which allows it to perform tasks with higher efficiency and priority. However, it has a disadvantage. Instead of accelerating it, it can sometimes be the cause of a slowdown, quite the contrary, of karma. To solve this problem, you must disable hardware acceleration:

  • Open your Spotify request.
  • Click on Edit in the upper left corner and select Settings from the drop-down list.
  • Click on’Show advanced settings’.
  • Under Compatibility, see’Enable hardware acceleration’.
  • Turn it off.

Cleaning Spotify folders

Some users reported that their problem was resolved after deleting the content of some Spotify related folders. You can do this by following these instructions:

  • When your Spotify request is open, close it.
  • Then open Windows Explorer.
  • Add the following path to the Windows Explorer directory/address bar:

C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Spotify\

Be sure to replace the administrator with your username.
Delete the contents of the browser’s memory, data and folders, but be careful not to delete the folders yourself.
