  2. Let it scan your computer.

Many Surface Pro 4 users have problems with their keyboards. Their surface keyboard or type cover does not respond correctly or has become completely insensitive.

It’s a very boring subject. And trying to fix it can be just as annoying, because you will spend a lot of time reading suggestions on the Internet, and most will not work.

Make sure the filter keys are off.

If the touchpad works, but the keys on your keyboard or nameplate do not respond, a setting may be enabled to facilitate access, such as filter, glue or mouse keys. See Making your PC more user-friendly to learn how to turn it off.

Execution of the two-button stop

If you have restarted your Surface and it has still not worked, it probably means that there are problems with the connection modules of the device. Here, a normal shutdown is not enough to solve problems. We will make a two-button stop. This will delete all temporary configurations and also delete all cache files. When we restart the computer, the files are recreated by default.

  1. Locate the power switch on your device. Press and hold for about 30 seconds.
  2. Now press the power button and volume button (+) simultaneously for about 15 seconds, then release both. Do not let go of it, even if you see the surface logo appear.
  3. Wait about one minute before restarting your device. After starting, connect your keyboard and check if the problem has been solved and if you can use all the functions.

Check the connector

This procedure is somewhat advanced and can damage your type of coverage. So if you are not familiar with this solution and you don’t know what you are doing, it may be better to ignore it.

If the Surface Pro 4 cover does not work, there may be a problem with the connector. Some users have reported a plastic dent on their type cover. According to them, they simply solved the problem by pressing the plastic dent behind the connector.

This may seem a little complicated, and if you don’t know how to do it, we recommend that you skip this solution.

Resetting the surface firmware

If the keyboard still does not respond, try resetting the surface firmware as follows:

  • Turn off the surface when the keyboard is connected.
  • Press and hold the “+” button on the volume button and power switch for about 20 seconds. You’ll see things on the screen and disappear. After the full time, you will be back on a black screen.

(Note: This is how you start in the UEFI firmware.)

Normally, light on the surface.

The firmware reset worked for me, so I’m not sure if other options will be available later. You can try resetting Windows 10 (Settings > Update & Security > Reset this PC > Start), but I’m skeptical, it might help you.
