Rename the cache folder.

Enter the following and press Enter after each line:

net stop wuauserv
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.OLD
net start wuauserv
exit

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

  1. Launch the Windows Update Troubleshooter troubleshooting tool after downloading it.
  2. Click on the “Advanced” link below, then click on the “Run as administrator” link. This will restart the diagnostic tool with administrator rights.

Checking Windows firewall settings
