Several Xbox One users have contacted us with questions after being unable to access games they’ve already downloaded. Most reports indicate that when they try to access the Game Pass titles menu, they get the following error: 0x000001f4. As it turns out, restarting the console the traditional way did not improve the situation in any way.

We investigated this particular problem by looking at various user reports and frequently used recovery strategies to eliminate this error message. In fact, several potential culprits could be causing this recurring error:

  • Xbox Live services are unavailable
  • Alternate MAC address is incorrect
  • Damaged system files

Check your network connection

  • Press the Windows button on your device or keyboard, or you can select the Windows icon in the lower left corner of the home screen.
  • Go to Settings>Games, then select Xbox Network.
  • In Xbox Live multiplayer mode, make sure you have an Internet connection.

If your network does not appear to be connected, or if you are having trouble connecting, select “Restore,” and then follow the troubleshooting instructions.

Resolve Internet connection problems.

  • Click Start. in the search box at startup, type

  • In the left pane, click Show All.

Check your subscription status

  • To install games from Xbox Game Pass, you must have an active Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or Xbox Game Pass for PC (beta) membership.
  • Make sure you are logged into the Microsoft Store and/or Xbox app, regardless of where you are installing from.
  • Make sure your Xbox Game Pass subscription is up to date by logging in and checking the status.

Run WSReset.exe

  • Press the Windows + R key to open the Run window.
  • Type wsreset.exe in Run, and then tap or click
  • OK.
  • Reboot your computer and check.

Change your DNS address

One of the most common error messages that can appear when your Windows Store doesn’t work is error “0x000001F4”. This can happen when your computer connects to the Internet through certain DNS servers that are automatically assigned by your ISP and/or home network.

  • To change the DNS server address, go to “Settings” (click “Start”, then click the gear icon) -> “Network and Internet” -> “Change adapter settings”.
  • Then right-click on your network connection, select “Properties” and in the new window scroll down to “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)”. Right-click it and select Properties.
  • In the Preferred DNS Server field, enter 1.1.1.1, which is the Cloudfare Universal DNS resolver. Click OK, and hopefully the Windows Store will work again.
  • You can also try using Google’s public DNS server with the following IP addresses:
    • 8.8.8.8
    • 8.8.4.4
