How To: Lock Windows 10 PC Remotely

It is possible to control your computer remotely and ensure that no one can use your computer while you are away. Or maybe if you’ve lost your laptop or stolen it by logging in, you can use this manual to use your Microsoft account to find and lock it remotely.

Windows 10 has a small feature that allows you not only to track your device, but also to lock it remotely.

Enable the Search for my device feature in Windows 10.

Before you can find your Windows 10 device, you must log in to your system using a Microsoft account, then enable the Search my device feature. This is the function that allows you to lock your device.

If you are using your system as a local user, open the Settings application, go to Accounts -> Your Information, and click Login with a Microsoft account. Now follow the wizard to complete the account binding process. Once you have connected your system to a Microsoft account, your device will be listed on the Microsoft Devices page.

To reconnect to the PC (after the PC has been disconnected and locked remotely), you must enter the account password or other login procedures. Remember that you must first log in to the administrator account by entering the password or other available login procedures. You cannot log in to a local or non-admin account before logging in to the Admin account. If you try, you will receive “An administrator has a restricted login. To connect, make sure your device is connected to the Internet and ask your administrator to connect you.

To remotely lock the Windows 10 PC

If the Search for my device option is enabled on your computer, you can lock your computer remotely by following the steps below.

If the search for My Device is not yet enabled on your computer, you can follow these steps: To configure my device search on Windows 10.

1. Open any web browser and go to .

2. Log in with your Microsoft username and password.

3. Once connected, click on the Manage option in the Devices section.

On the next screen, click on the Search for my device link.

When you click Find my device, the current location of your computer is displayed in words and on a map.


If you think your account is at risk, we recommend that you change your password to be on the right side. Once you have found your device, you can connect to your PC using the administrator account.
