Cortana is a virtual assistant created by Microsoft and included in the Windows 10 operating system. The main goal is to make it easier to find on Windows 10 devices. There are times when Cortana doesn’t work as expected. The only way to fix this problem is to reinstall it. In this final installment of our troubleshooting series, we’ll show you how to reinstall Cortana on Windows 10.

How to uninstall Cortana in Windows 10
You can uninstall Cortana using PowerShell command. Although this is a standalone application, there is no direct option to uninstall it. We are going to use the AppxPackage command to uninstall Cortana on Windows 10. To do this, you will need admin rights and PowerShell.
Open PowerShell as an administrator. Run the following command to check if Cortana is available on your computer.
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.549981C3F5F10
If the command does not display an error and includes the package information for the named application, this confirms that Cortana is available. The following command will remove Cortana from the system for all users.
Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.549981C3F5F10_2.2005.5739.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe | Remove-AppxPackage
Be sure to use the exact package name, not just Microsoft.549981C3F5F10. Otherwise it will not work. The fully qualified package name is available using the first command in the resulting PackageFullName. If you do not receive an error message, Cortana will be removed from your computer.
Removing does a strange thing. The Cortana app icon remains on the taskbar even after uninstallation. You can hide it from the menu on the taskbar. However, when you click the Cortana icon in the taskbar, nothing happens. My guess is that this approach of hiding Cortana in the system tray and then showing it again is just a UI issue and only Microsoft can clear it up.
Reinstall Cortana from the Windows Store
If for some reason you want to restore Cortana to your Windows 10 computer, for some reason it’s very easy to do.
Just go to the Microsoft Store and search for Cortana. When you see the Cortana app, click the Get button, then click Install. Now wait for the app to download and install and you’re done.
If the Cortana button is hidden on the taskbar, right-click on the taskbar and select the Show Cortana button checkbox to make it visible.
When the process is complete, restart your computer so that all changes are reflected in all profiles. Make sure to run the above command as administrator. If you are not an administrator, User Account Control prevents you from making changes to other profiles.
