  • Make sure that the drive you re-label is not in use and that no files on that drive are open.
  • Right-click the “Start” button.
  • Click Disk Management to open the Disk Management Console.
  • Right-click the volume containing the drive letter you want to change.
  • Click Change drive letter and drive path.
  • Click the Change button.
  • Choose from a list of available drive letters. (Do not use A or B, which were formerly reserved for floppy disk drives and can sometimes confuse older software).
  • Click the OK button.
  • Click Yes when a pop-up window appears and asks if you really want to do it.
  • Close the Disk Management Console.

  • Right-click on a hard drive and select Properties from the menu.
  • Under General Settings, type the new name in the name field and click OK.
