Check your graphics card
Do you use an AMD or nVidia graphics card? Resolve plays much better with AMD graphics cards when using OpenCL because AMD has a better OpenCL implementation. nVidia has been blocked on CUDA for so long that it has neglected OpenCL from the driver’s point of view. As a last step, try reinstalling the driver for your graphics card.

Disabling the built-in GPU
If you are trying to run DaVinci Resolve on a desktop/portable computer configuration containing two different GPUs (dedicated and integrated), you must ensure that DaVinci Resolve uses the dedicated option. As some users have pointed out, it is possible that the software may attempt to use the integrated solution, resulting in a severe restriction (and failure) of the software.
You can try to force Davinci Resolve to use the dedicated GPU via the Nvidia Control Panel / AMD Catalyst Control Center, but the users concerned have had mixed results.
The safest option is to simply disable the built-in GPU. This way, your system has no choice but to use the dedicated GPU. Here is a quick guide to disabling the built-in GPU.
Note: This manual applies to all current versions of Windows.
- Press Windows + R to open a Run dialog box. Then type “devmgmt.msc” and press Enter to open the Device Manager.
- In the Device Manager, expand the Display Adapter drop-down menu.
- From the Display Adapter drop-down menu, right-click on your integrated GPU and select Disable Device.
- Open DaVinci Resolve and see if you still experience frequent failures.
Use a dedicated GPU
Resolve requires a dedicated graphics processor to operate. Geforce Titan Xp or 1080 Ti would be ideal, but depending on your codecs and resolutions, smaller cards like 1070, 1060 or AMD equivalents should also work. Check the configuration instructions on the Blackmagic pages, they are very careful.
