Elder Scrolls Online is a very expected game of the gaming community, and its release was closely followed by the media. However, there are a few bugs associated with the game, which make the experience a little less enjoyable than it should be. Several different bugs may already appear on the login screen.

These mistakes can be quite difficult to deal with, as there is a lot of information scattered on the Internet, which is difficult to find, but also difficult to judge the degree of success. That is why we have developed several practical solutions to help you get rid of these annoying login error codes.

LOGIN ERROR
An Unexpected internal error has occured.
Please contact customer service at

The “unexpected internal error” error usually occurs due to excessive demand on a mega-server, but it can also happen if you have a corrupted file or if your game needs updating.

Check ESO Service Alerts

First check the ESO Service Alerts to ensure that the servers are currently available. If the ESO servers are maintained or not working, you will not be able to connect until this problem is solved. If ESO servers are connected to the network, follow these troubleshooting steps.

If there are no problems with the service status, change your mega-server to check if the error persists on both servers.

Log out and Log in Again

Go out and restart the game and the launcher. If the update is available for ESO, you will be prompted to view it.

Check the ESO game files on Steam

  • Check if you have The Elder Scrolls Online through steam. If you downloaded the game at a free game event or if you use the Steam library, you can not own the game through Steam. If you have added ESO to your library as a game not intended for a team game, it is recommended to open ESO Starter directly.
  • Be sure to log in to your ESO account, which is associated with your Steam account when you start the game via Steam.
  • Ferry Authentication may fail. Log out of Steam completely and restart Steam. This may lead to an update that will fix the problem.

Using another launcher

If you play the game using Steam-Launcher, it is possible that the error was caused by faulty Steam servers that could not handle the received traffic. Faulty servers are something you cannot avoid or affect in any way, but there is a way to start the game with a default startup.

  • Browse to the folder that should be exactly where you installed Steam, since the location starts with the Steam folder. However, the default Steam folder is C: >> Program Files (x86). Open the library icon in the taskbar and follow this path.
  • Steam >> Steam applications >> General >> Zenimax Online >> Old Scrolls Online >> Game >> Client >> eso64.exe.
  • A folder may be in a different place if you have created a new library of steam in the meantime. Right click on the .exe file and select Run as administrator and make sure that the login function works. If this is the case, you can continue immediately and play while the Steam servers are finally running again.

Power Cycle your Home Network

  • Turn off the router by disconnecting it from the power source. If you have a modem and router in one device, turn it off, then go to step 3.
  • Turn off your DSL or cable modem.
  • Note: Some modems have a backup battery. If your modem has one, remove the backup battery to turn it off completely.
  • Turn off all computers connected to the network.
  • First turn on your DSL or cable modem and let it start. Let it finish communicating with your ISP before moving on to the next step. If you have a modem and router in the same device, go to step 6 after connecting to your ISP.
  • Once the modem connects to your ISP, reconnect the router. Give the router time to pass the power on test before proceeding to the next step.
  • Reboot the computer(s).
