If you come across this message, it probably means that you are a user of Steam (Valve Corporation’s very popular game distribution platform) and that you have one or more games in a terrible Download Queued or Update Queued state – even if there is no active download. Every time this scenario occurs, Steam is fundamentally unable to download or update anything, which can be extremely annoying.
Although Steam is a giant in the video game industry, he also has many problems and strange mistakes. One of them is when Steam has not updated or downloaded a game. The game can be blocked as “in the queue” or downloaded at 0 bytes per second. This problem can occur for various reasons. It all depends on your software and hardware, because all users have different configurations.
Fortunately, there are many effective solutions to solve this problem and resume downloading and updating games.
Change the download region
Steam has divided its services into several geographical regions. At these locations, different servers are implemented and, by default, the server closest to you is defined as the download server.
There are millions of online players in Steam every day and it is not new that servers sometimes refuse one or two clients to serve those already in the queue. Or your server may be overloaded or shut down for maintenance purposes. We can try to change your download region and see if it solves the problem. Steam may ask you to restart your client so that changes can be made. If asked, press Ok and after restarting the Steam Client, check if the problem has been solved.
If the above option does not work, you can try to reset the steam configuration as follows:
- Right-click the Windows Start button and click Run (or left click and select the Run icon if you are using Windows 7 or earlier).
- Type steam://flushconfig in the text box (see screenshot below) and press OK.
- Steam starts with a popup that says that it clears the download cache and that you need to log in again.
- All you have to do is click OK because that’s exactly what you want and your downloads should continue immediately.
Clear the download cache and update the steam files
In your Steam client, open the Settings pane by selecting Steam > Settings from the top left menu.
In the Settings pane, select the Downloads tab and you will see the Clear Download Cache button below.
Then select “OK” to confirm and confirm that you need to connect to Steam again.
Run Windows in Clean boot
To restart under Windows 8 or Windows 10:
- Press the Windows + R button to open a launch box.
- Type msconfig and click OK.
- In the General tab, click on Selective Start.
- Clear the Load Start-up Items check box.
- Click on the Services tab.
- Select the Hide all Microsoft services check box (below).
- Click on Disable All.
- Click on the Start tab.
- Click on Open Task Manager.
- In the Start tab, right-click on each activated start item and choose Disable.
- Click on OK.
- Click Restart.
