Many users use their Windows 10 computers to create and access their data on their servers over their network. Some users have reported an error indicating that the server is unavailable. The total error is as follows,
\\server is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Logon Failure: The target account name is incorrect.
Make sure the following Windows services are running and set to Automatic. Please follow the steps below to learn how to make changes if necessary.

My suggestion here would be to first disable Windows Firewall on all computers and then try to access the shared folders. Also be sure to disable any third-party firewall programs such as Norton or Comodo.
If you find that sharing works when the firewall is turned off, add file and printer sharing to the list of exceptions in your Windows Firewall and third-party firewall programs.
Changing settings for file sharing connections
- Open Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced Sharing Settings > File Sharing Connections
- Select Enable file sharing for devices with 40 or 56-bit encryption and see if it helps. If this is not the case, cancel the changes you made.
Reset your PC to a previous operating state.
On the machine with the shared folder:
1. Press image_thumb8 + R on Windows to open the command box at runtime.
2. type rstrui and click OK to start System Restore.
3. on the first screen, click Next.
4. select a previous operating state (date/time) and click Next to start the recovery process.
5. After restoring the system, try again to access the shared folder from the client computer.
Adding a Windows logon confirmation
If you try to connect to a remote server computer and the connection continues to fail, you might want to add an identifier that prevents Windows from blocking that connection. To do this, you must know the network address, user name, and password of the remote computer or server.
- Start the Control Panel by searching for the utility in the Start button or by clicking the Search (Cortana) button in the left part of the taskbar (at the bottom left of the screen).
- You can also use the Windows Key + R key combination, which requires you to type “control.exe” and click Run, which also opens the Control Panel directly.
- Change the Display option to Large Icons in the upper right corner of the Control Panel window and try to find the Credentials Manager.
- Switch from Web credentials to Windows credentials and click the Add Windows credentials button in the appropriate section.
I don’t know why Windows people suddenly decided to change the way network sharing works. That shouldn’t happen. First of all, I had file sharing and network access for everyone that was allowed on some of my Windows 7/8 machines, so Windows 10 shouldn’t bother, especially since everything worked long before the upgrade. Second, there are no significant messages in the event log, which is the natural way to solve the problem.
