Most of the time, opening the command prompt as a normal user is all you need. However, sometimes you need to open the command prompt as an administrator in order to be able to execute commands that require administrator rights.

At first glance, PowerShell looks a lot like cmd. They are both used to run external programs, such as ping or copy, and give you the ability to automate tasks by writing a batch script/file.

But PowerShell is much more than that. First, it offers a very complete set of commands (called cmdlets) that integrates deeply with Windows and most Microsoft products. Cmdlets such as Get-Process, which lists active processes.

Another big difference is that the output of this command is not only text, but a collection of objects. This is far superior to the output of a simple text, since you can easily query any property of the object, such as its name or the use of its memory. In cmd, the result should be analysed.

Another feature of PowerShell is its integration with.NET. You can easily use any class defined in.NET to program missing function cmdlets.

You can also easily integrate the powerhell runtime into.NET applications and use the PowerShell Output objects directly.

This command line tool evaluates current permissions. If you are already running a cmd.exe with administrative privileges, nothing happens. However, if this is not the case, it tries to restart cmd.exe with administrative privileges in the current directory, as if you had right-clicked on cmd.exe to run as an administrator.

The program is a very small executable file (9 KB) and has no graphical interface or anything like that. It is super easy to use. All you have to do is download it and copy it to the folder where you want to start a CMD window with administrator rights. Double-click on the EXE and a new CMD window with administrator rights opens.

However, make sure you have access to the administrator rights of your device. If not, then this tool is completely useless to you.

Supershell also supports a simple command line argument, which is certainly very useful when used in combination with other programs. Suppose there is a program that you still want to run as an administrator. Place su.exe with this program in the same folder. Now, the next time you want to execute it, all you have to do is execute the following command:

su.exe /CMD yourprogram.exe

or

su /CMD program

The command line argument starts the mentioned program with high privileges. This is very useful for daily tasks.

Another way to use this small utility is to add it to your PATH environment variable. By adding the Supershell installation directory to your path variable, you make it available almost anywhere on your system.

After adding it to the path, the su command is available everywhere on your system. Open a CMD window and simply type su to open a new CMD window with high privileges. The command also works as it is with an additional argument.
