Slack is one of the leading instant messaging platforms, which is one of the best alternatives to Skype. Many users prefer to use Slack because of its superior text formatting and application integration options.

You can also use Slack to create handy reminders for yourself, for an entire channel or for a channel member. Follow these guidelines to create and delete reminders in Slack.

Busy like a bee or maybe a little distracted? Send yourself or other members of your workspace to important meetings, tasks, or anything you might come back to later.

What you will need

The only things you need for that are:

  • A Slack account
  • The Slack mobile or desktop application
  • A connection to the network

How to Set a Slack Reminder

  • Hover the mouse over the message or file you want to be reminded of
  • Click the three dots in the upper right corner.
  • Move the mouse to “Call me back”.
  • Select a reminder period.

Your Slackbot will then remind you of that message or file in the workspace at the time you choose. And you can always use the “/remind list” command to see a list of your reminders.

Use the /remind command

You can use the familiar release reminder command to remind yourself or a channel of a recurring event:

Remember the month
/remind me to file my expense reports on the 25th of every month.
/remind me every day
/remind me to go “lunch” every day at 11:45.
Remind your team every week
/Remember the “Customer meeting tomorrow at 9:00 A.M.” channel every Wednesday at 9:00 P.M.
Remind your team on a daily basis
/Remember that general “listen, you’ll give us those GST reports this afternoon?” every day at 8:00.

Other intervals
Try different intervals following the same pattern as described above.

To delete/update reminders

You once thought it was a good idea to remember to have coffee at 9 o’clock every day, but you’ve since given up caffeine, but you still have that memory! Let’s erase that memory.

If you type / list reminders, not only will all your reminders be listed, but other options will be offered to you. Next to each reminder is an option to delete it. Tap it and no more daily temptation to go and get coffee at 9am.

You can also mark your reminder as complete if you’ve done something before Slack reminds you. Come on!

You can also remove reminders from the reminder list. That way, if you know you’re in a meeting, you can put it off for 15 minutes, an hour, or the next day. You can’t freeze channel reminders.

Unfortunately, you can’t edit a reminder with Slack, just delete it and restart it.

Conclusion

Setting up and deleting reminders in Slack is therefore simple. Note that Slack does not offer an editing option for reminders. You must therefore delete the reminders and re-enter the complete commands to modify them if necessary.
