Taking over a folder in Windows 10 using File Explorer

  1. Right-click on a file or a folder
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Click Edit next to the owner name.
  5. Click Advanced.

  7. Select your user name and click OK.
  8.  Click OK.
  9. Click Apply. If you change a folder, you can do the following

  11. Click Add. Now it’s time to make sure that you have all types of permissions.
  12. Click Select Principal.
  13. Click Advanced.
  14. Click Find Now.
  15. Select your username and click OK.
  16. Click on your username, it’s time to check your new permissions.
  17. Click OK, because you have taken full ownership and permissions for the file!

You should now have full ownership and access to your file or folder.
