Change the registry settings in Windows

  1. Go to C:³Username³ Documents and create a new folder for PST files here.
  2. Press Windows + R and type Regedit in the runtime window.
  3. This will open the registry editor page.
  4. Navigate to this location:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office<OfficeVersion>\Outlook.
  5. Instead of <OfficeVersion>, look for your version of Microsoft Office.
  6. Once found, click Outlook in the left pane, then right-click an empty space in the right pane. Choose New -> String Value.
  7. In the Edit String dialog box, type the Name value as ForcePSTPath and click OK.
  8. Now find this ForcePSTPath value in the same window, right-click it, and select Edit.
  9. Enter the path to the newly created Outlook PST folder in this location – C:³ Files in step 1, and click OK.
  10. Exit the registry editor page.
  11. Restart the Microsoft Outlook application and try creating a new Outlook account again. The error may not occur again.
