Microsoft Office Customization Tool and Deployment Options for Office 2010

Microsoft has published a document describing and illustrating client deployment methods for Microsoft Office 2010. Deployment options include network sharing, group policy startup scripts, managed deployment, and virtualization.

The deployment architecture for Microsoft Office 2010 is mainly the same as for Microsoft Office 2007 system, except that Office 2010 now requires Office volume activation technologies such as Key Management Service (KMS), Multiple Activation Key (MAK), MAK Proxy or a combination of these technologies to participate in all volume licensing programs.

Office 2010 also introduces 64-bit native versions of Office products.

The Config.xml file can be used to configure certain installation policy settings can be used to define and maintain an Office configuration on users’ computers.

Group policy settings are applied and can be used to create highly managed or easily managed configurations.
