Microsoft Register Server no longer works under Windows 10/8/7

If you have a Microsoft(C) Register Server stopped working error dialog box when you are working on your Windows computer, then this message may help you. Microsoft Register Server is the command to register DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) in Windows. This error may occur if you try to save a DLL file with the Regsvr32 command, or if the operating system does not save a DLL file.

You can solve this problem by releasing the protection status of your computer. Proceed as follows

Open your Control Panel and select System. Then click on Advanced System Settings, then open the Advanced tab. Now press the Settings button under Performance.

Click now on the tab ‘Data Execution Prevention‘ in the window ‘Performance Options‘ and select Enable DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

Data execution prevention or DEP is a security feature introduced in Windows Vista and later to prevent damage caused to your computer by viruses and other security threats. You can enable or disable data execution prevention or disable data execution prevention (DEP) for a specific program.

OK, back, you must now specify the program regsvr32.exe, say Microsoft. Click the ‘Add’ button and select the folder C:WindowsSystem32. Find and select file regsvr32.exe. This assumes that you are using a version of Windows 32-bit. If you are prompted with a warning that the action could make your computer unprotected and vulnerable to attacks, ignore it and click OK to continue.

Finally, try restarting the regsvr32 command from the command line, and things should work for you. You will also not see the message.

For machines with version Windows 64-bit, the folder path is C:WindowsSysWOW64.
