One of the biggest questions in the world of operating systems is whether open source operating systems will ever compete with Microsoft Windows operating systems or even reasonably approach them in terms of popularity?

The debate is endless. While supporters of open source talk endlessly and the Windows vs. Linux discussion will continue forever, why Linux is superior to Windows, here are the reasons why I feel Microsoft Windows prevails over open source operating systems.

1. No operating system is as user-friendly as Microsoft Windows. Nobody wants to write several lines of code if they can do the same job in a few clicks. The Microsoft Windows user interface is much better and easier to customize compared to open source operating systems. This is because Microsoft Windows is designed so that even the simplest users can adapt to the interface.

(2) Windows has a market share of about 90%, while Linux is still around 1% today. Because of its large user base, Microsoft Windows has a large ecosystem and supports a large number of software programs that allow its users to select software programs according to their needs – many of which are also free software. Open source operating systems also have a huge collection of supported software, but they are lagging behind Microsoft Windows because most software has been developed with Microsoft Windows in mind.

3 Open Source operating systems such as Linux kernel-based server editions are often referred to as the most secure operating systems. If not better in this regard, Microsoft Windows Server Editions are equal to secure and are improving day by day. The fact is that Windows is used by most people around the world, malware authors find it more cost-effective to attack Windows, so it is hammered more often. Finally, why would anyone want to target 2-3% of the operating system market?

However, Windows servers are known to recover faster from security attacks than Linux. If Linux or Open Source were completely secure, would it have been possible to hack the Linux website itself? You have to understand and accept that as an operating system becomes more and more popular, it also falls under the radar of malware writers, as we saw recently with Apple Mac.

4 Microsoft Windows supports a wide range of hardware and most hardware providers support their hardware under Microsoft Windows because of the larger number of users. On the other hand, open source operating systems have a comparatively smaller user base and, therefore, only some manufacturers support their hardware in open source operating systems such as Linux.

5 It is difficult to find support for open source operating systems because they are not used by the majority of the population, although some resources are available on the Internet in the form of discussion forums, electronic books and community websites. In comparison, Microsoft Windows has its own help section and there are a large number of resources on the Internet and many books are available on the market as reference books.

(6) Starting from Windows 7, the final version of Microsoft Windows generally contains a negligible number of bugs, since it is tested by highly qualified experts from Microsoft Corporation, their beta-testers and MVPs and goes through different test phases before its release. Microsoft is also generally fast to repair versions, if necessary. Open Source operating systems are also professionally tested and have alpha and beta versions before final release, but they have some bug fixes through updates and updates.

7. then there are the questions of costs. Now it’s a domain where Windows loses! Almost all Linux variants are available for free or at a much lower price. For Windows, however, you must pay! Although this is not very important for the desktop version, it becomes important in the enterprise domain. Linux maintenance costs should be quite low compared to Microsoft Windows. This is therefore one of the areas in which Microsoft Windows is exposed to fierce competition from Linux flavors, especially in the area of servers.
