Windows 10 v1709 introduces a new energy saving technology called Power Throttling. A unique feature of this technology is that, while it gives users access to powerful multitasking capabilities, it improves battery life through energy-efficient background operation. If you do not find it useful, you can disable it.
Performance reduction under Windows 10
A Windows integrated recognition system identifies and keeps active user tasks or tasks that are important to the user during execution. Other processes are automatically strangled. The task manager can be used to find such applications.
To check which applications and processes are limited, you must open the Task Manager, select the Details tab, right-click and click Select Columns. Select Power Throttling to display the column where you can see the details.
To disable power throttling in Windows 10, you must change the active power plan from Balanced to High Performance. You can do this via the battery indicator visible in the taskbar.
Click the icon to display a cursor with the selected power mode. It has four positions, as shown in the image below, as you move from left to right:
- Battery saver
- Best battery (recommended)
- Best performance
To disable the power throttle, simply move the slider to the right to activate the Power Plan Best performance. This disables power reduction, but significantly increases power consumption, as the power saving functions are also disabled in this mode.
Enable Power Throttling for background applications
You have total control over your Windows 10 applications. This allows you to decide which applications should be limited. You can prevent Windows 10 from managing the CPU resources of these applications. Open Settings > System and select option Battery.
Then select Battery Usage by App in the left pane and find the application you want to exclude from performance reduction and uncheck the Let Windows decide when this application can run in the background. Once you have disabled the option, a new check box appears, Let the application perform background tasks. Activate this option to run the application in the background.
With Power Throttling, Windows 10 puts the CPU in the most energy-efficient operating mode and does the job with minimal battery consumption. I hope you find this feature good for you.
