Update Windows Tool
Today, Windows 10 offers you simple options for resetting Windows that are available in Settings > Update > Recovery > Reset this PC. The built-in reset option allows you to keep your files, but deletes all installed programs and resets Windows settings to default values.
This new standalone Windows update tool installs a clean copy of the latest version of Windows 10 on your PC and deletes the applications installed on it.
If you run this tool after receiving your UAC confirmation, some files will be extracted and you will see one ‘Prepare Things’ screen. Then, you must accept the Licence Conditions.
Once you do this, the tool downloads the last copy of Windows 10 from Microsoft servers and performs a clean installation. You cannot use your own locally registered ISO.
The option is also available to you:
- Delete personal files where everything is deleted, including files, settings and applications.
If you use this tool, all applications that are not included in the standard Windows 1o installation, including installed programs, OEM drivers, and preinstalled software, are removed. You may also lose your digital licenses and other digital claims. You must install your applications and reactivate Windows.
You can also access the Refresh window via Settings > Update & Security > Recovery Settings. Click Learn how to reboot with a clean Windows installation to go to a web page where you can download the tool and get more information about it.
Besides, this is similar to the media creation tool, so until a new feature is added to this tool, you may not find much use for it.
You can download the Refresh Windows tool from Microsoft. I repeat, this works with your latest Insider Builds and Windows 10 Anniversary Update and later.
